Bioremediation for the treatment of acid mine drainage

Projetct aims:

The project aims at implementing an innovative technology for the treatment of acid mine drainage (AMD), an acquous effluent produced from copper extraction activities. The currently adopted processess in general employ calcarium treatment and may not meet environmental legislation determinations and may not be economically sustainable. We will deploy a prototype that uses microalgae as a carbon source in an integrated to bacterial cultures that precipitate metals from AMD. The process will be more efficient than current technology and will cost 20% less.
